Airpods Ain’t Worth It

For just $159 you can purchase your own wireless cotton swabs you will lose in a week. Yes, $159. These earbuds feature a tiny five-hour battery life, and they can charge in their battery case for 24 hours. Even if you can get over the look of Apple AirPods, they are still terribly overpriced.
The wired Apple EarPods, on the other hand, have physical controls where you can play or pause your music and raise or lower the volume. They can also rewind, skip, fast-forward, and go to the previous song. On the other hand, AirPods have fewer functions than EarPods. With AirPods you can only assign two out of the four available functions at a time.
If the lower-priced EarPods are lost or damaged, you just have to buy another pair for $30. AirPods, however, are easy to lose and expensive to replace. Losing the case or a single AirPod costs $89, while battery issues or a new charging case will be $65.
“AirPods are what defines your wealth nowadays. There’s no reason to pay extra money for something so meaningless,” said Qarshi Ghedi (10). “My conclusion is things that are trendy blindside people into paying more money for something that is so useless.”
AirPods are one-size-fits-all which means they can fall out of your ears because not everyone has the same sized ears. Not only does the ‘tap to summon Siri’ function not work well, but AirPods also often don’t detect they’re in your ears and therefore won’t turn on, or they won’t detect that you’ve removed them from your ears and continue to play music.
I think that most of these inconveniences would not be such a big deal, but for a price tag of $159, it is a rip-off. So, you’ll still see me walking down the hallway with my cords.
