On January 7 the Alabama Rolling Tide faced off against the Clemson Tigers for the College Football National Championship. This is the third time in the last four years that these two teams have played in college football’s most prestigious game. The game started off with an interception for a touchdown from AJ Terrell that put Clemson up 6-0. Then Alabama threw a touchdown to tie the game. But this was the end of the back and forth. Clemson took control of the game and cruised to an easy victory 44-16.
The college football playoff is a four-team bracket that consists of two semifinal games and one championship game. Oklahoma was awarded the number four seed with a 12-2 record. Notre Dame finished 12-0 and received the three seed, while Clemson got the two seed going undefeated. To no surprise, Alabama was given the number one seed with an undefeated record.
Even though few of these teams had perfect records, some fans were still very upset. Ohio State was kept out of the tournament as well as Georgia which resulted in huge backlash from their beloved fan bases.
On December 29, 2018, the College Football Playoffs kicked off with Clemson vs. Notre Dame. The game was not competitive at all and the Clemson Tigers defeated the Fighting Irish 30-3. The second game between Oklahoma and Alabama was a much closer game. The gamestarted out looking like it would be a blowout. Alabama came out of the gate firing and took aquick lead on the Sooners. However, Oklahoma and their Heisman winner, Kyler Murray, foughtback to make the game very interesting for fans. In the end, Oklahoma’s miracle comeback didn’t happen, and Alabama advanced to the national championship to play Clemson.
